About This Metric
Definition
Records of shares actually lent out, split into negotiated and auction trades.
How to Read
More shares lent while the fee rate rises usually means borrow supply is tightening.
- Negotiated: the two parties agree the fee rate privately; most large institutional loans go this way.
- Auction: bid openly on the platform, with the fee rate set by the market.
- Large-cap stocks are almost all negotiated; a whole period with no auction trades is not missing data.

Caveat
Borrowing shares doesn't mean they will be sold; hedging and arbitrage also borrow.
