How to read market cap
Taiwan Stock DataMarket cap is the closing price multiplied by shares outstanding: what the market is currently willing to pay for the whole company, and the yardstick that makes stocks with very different share prices comparable. One stock's market-cap line on its own says little — read it next to the stock's rank and share of the market to tell whether the change came from this stock or from the market moving together. Rights issues, capital reductions and stock dividends change the share count, so the line can also jump for reasons unrelated to the share price.
